Sevier Lake is a large "dry lake" in Millard County, Utah. Most years it's just a big salt flat, dry playa or pasty salt mud. Its shape is both distinctive and nondescript, extrapolated into this piece, both chaotic and geometrically stable.
The canvas itself is a 1.5"-deep "gallery wrap" (with part of the composition wrapping around the sides), but set in a "floater frame" meant for thinner canvasses. The result is an engaging nearly-sculptural effect.
